Description

Source: STC database. Bratskii listok is a periodical issued by a group of baptist elders who protested regulations issued in 1960 by a state-sponsored VSEKhB (All-union council of Evangelical Christian Baptists) which were regarded as anti-evangelical and limiting the autonomy of the church. In 1960, after a publication of a decree limiting the age of baptism to 18 , the group summoned an organizational committee calling for the all union gathering of baptists (both registered , state-recognized and unregistered, not recognized by the state) in order to re-elect the VSEHB. Bratskii listok was a publication of the organizational committee, detailing the purposes and goals of the organization, as well as explaining to the communities of believers the reasoning for summoning the gathering and reelecting the VSHEKhB. It was issued irregularly in the period between 1960 and 1964 (Alekseeva, 1983). Later, as the dealings with the VSEKhB failed, organizational committee became part of the Council of Churches of Evangelical Christian Baptists, and "Bratskii Listok" became a periodical of this organization. At this point (around 1964) “Bratskii Listok” becomes a regular periodical and is issued monthly. Similarly to other baptists periodicals “Bratskii Listok” was produced by Khristianin publishing house where it was first multiplied by hectograph (See a note on OSA's 1965 no. 2-3, AC 785, that states that the original was a hectograph; OSA's 1970 no. 6-7, AC 864, is a blue-ink hectograph original). When the clandestine printing press was constructed to be used at the publishing house, the journal started to appear in printed form. In fact, "Bratskii listok", 1971 no. 7-8 was the first issue of baptist periodical to be printed, rather than hectographed. The title of the bulletin repeats that of the early periodical that was published as an appendix to the journal "Kristianin" 1906 by I.S. Prokhanov and existed until the early 1920s (except for the years of Civil War). The title was apparently selected to stress continuity between the two stages of baptist journalism. Its publication continues today; text versions of the issues from 1965 and those starting from 2004, no 1, as well as selected documents from other issues can be located at the official web-site of the International Union of Councils of Evangelical Christian Baptists. (IUCECB) (www.iucecb.com). Form of designation statement varies by issue. Additional imprint information: "Издается с 1965" (Published since 1965) and colontitles (title, issue number, pages) added from issue 1971 no. 7-8. Font also changes. From 1972 no. 4 printed in two columns.
